Ok, so there are a couple of ways that I get ideas for my stories. It can happen instantly, or it can take time for it to happen, but it still happens.
These are the top five ways that I come up with my stories.
1: Stories are what dreams are made from.
As the title bold part states, most of my stories come from dreams that I have had in the past. One of my first stories that I had ever written came from a dream. That story is called Santa’s Daughter. I had a dream in which I was the daughter of Santa Claus, and I was learning that life while doing what I had been doing most of my life.
What I mean by saying me is that I was the main character of that dream. I played a role, an actor who was learning the part and acting it out in the dream. I was that character, even though I knew that I was asleep.
Don’t ask me what I had for dinner that evening because I have no idea. I was in seventh or eighth grade when that happened, which was about eleven years ago for me.
Let’s just say that I am a lucid dreamer sometimes, and I can change the course of something that has happened in my dreams.
It’s fun but tiring because there is a 99.9% chance that my dream story could become my biggest hit.
Note: Santa’s Daughter isn’t the only story that I had come up with this way. Most of my stories are that way, and as I said, it can be exhausting.
2: Different books that I read.
Like most writers, I am/was an avid reader. I love reading books and getting lost in a world that the author has created.
Sometimes I love making up scenes in my head, like adding a new character to the story, seeing what they would do, etc. Basically, I am writing fanfic in my head, but it has never gotten onto paper.
However, what has gotten onto paper is something else.
What I mean by that is an idea, a piece of something that might be a little similar to another story, but I made it my own.
One of my top stories on Wattpad was actually created from reading a different story. Thankfully, there is nothing similar between that book and the other, but only one particular detail.
I am kind of hesitant to say what it is because I don’t want anyone to get mad at me, even though I have created the character and the detail of that character as my own.
3: Movies are amazing and can be a source of inspiration.
You have got to admit. You have wanted to be in a movie so bad that you start thinking of ways that you could fit in. This is something that I have done, and I will continue doing, even though I know I can’t be an actor.
The Beauty and the Beast have come from The Beauty and the Beast (movie). Ya know? The big Disney hit that has the singing and dancing and all of that? Ya, it has come from that concept.
What ya’ll don’t realize is that the names of two characters actually start with the same letter as the movie version. Those names are Louis and Cameron, the Beta and Gamma of the pack of the king.
Do you know who they are supposed to represent, or should I just say it? If you wanted to take a guess, then let me know in the comments because I want to see if ya’ll guess who I was going for when I gave them the names Louis and Cameron.
If ya’ll guess Lumière and Cogsworth, then ya’ll are correct. I was going to go for those two when I wrote their names because they were closer to the king than the other characters. Mrs. Perry was based on Mrs. Potts only because Mrs. Perry is a mother like her.
4: Songs can give inspiration for writing when there isn’t anything to write about.
There are some songs that had helped me write stories when I didn’t know what to write. One of the biggest artists who have helped me with my writing is Lady A (the country group and not the singer.)
I have gotten some of my inspiration from them, and some of their songs actually incorporate the feeling that I want for the couple and what not.
They can be seen mostly in Xavier, in the relationship between Xavier and Cass. One of the main songs from them that helped me is, Falling For You. This song is how I think they react to each other when they notice that they are starting to fall in love with each other, especially when Cass trusts Xavier to be near her.
They have stolen each others’ hearts, and they followed their hearts when they accepted each other. They have pure love, something that I hoped I had incorporated in my writing or will with each coming edit.
One of the lines: It’s too early to say, but it feels like us so hold me now, I’m fallin’, I’m fallin’ for you.
They have a sweet relationship, and I can’t wait to see what other songs will help me with them and other stories that I write.
5: Writing on other stories and then coming up with an idea that way.
For all of you writers out there, do you come with this idea too? Do you delve into the history or something like that with a character, even though you didn’t want or need to? Ya… that’s what I’m doing too.
Some of my stories are based on events that happen around a character or will happen around a character. If you have or will be reading my Red Series, most of my books will be based on the first book, The Red Wolf.
There are going to be character books, Alternate Universes, the whole nine yards with that series, and there are a few other series, too.
I have no idea why I came up with these stories, but I have come up with them. I have the titles for them, so one of these days, they are going to be written.
Hopefully, they won’t come up with anything else when I do start writing them.
So, these are just a few ways that I get my story ideas. For you writers out there, how do you get yours? Do you read and then write, or what do you? I would love to read some of what ya’ll have to say.
Thank you and have a nice morning.
